I was lucky to have grown up in the woods and valleys of the northern midwest, spending my childhood immersed in nature. The first books I ever read were about comparative religion and American Indian philosophy. Later I explored science and physics. I have always been fascinated by nature's ways and it seems a pathway of physics and nature invariably leads one to discover the profound insights of the ancient Taoists.

My coaching work and leadership training has inspired books and articles that celebrate our global traditions and how ancient wisdom can teach us about success in modern terms. Actual dreamwork with clients has led to my research in how dreams cultivate clarity and self-direction.
Unlike most therapists, my psychology background blends the ideas of both Freud and Jung. It is only fitting that since nature inspires me so deeply, proceeds should go back to serving the environment.

When I was a child on the shores of Lake Erie, I thought it was normal to find dead fish scattered on the beach and that they naturally swam to the shores to die. One of our rivers actually caught on fire and I observed first hand, the effects of pollution on wildlife. Dr. Suess' book about the Lorax was based on what was happening to Lake Erie. Yet, this lake serves as a great example of how people can come together to make changes that can be observed within a few decades. I am currently working to change sewage runoff practices as they affect our coral reefs and other projects include ensuring that farm animals are treated humanely.

My coaching approach is unique in that it is based on the principle of mèng jian. I teach students how to recognize and release any boundaries that separate thought processes from the seamless unity and purposefulness of what they experience. Taoism is a discipline that cultivates inner direction which leads to a better understanding of the pathway. Carl Jung called this connection synchronicity. It is amazing to see his ideas in action by studying the common dream searches on my site happening simultaneously around the world.

I do coaching online because this method allows me to focus on the core issues that can block a client from experiencing happiness and fulfillment. They can spend hours attempting to describe a conflict, although the dream will sum it up in a few cryptic landscapes. The dream not only describes the conflict, it reveals how to solve it. And I have yet to work with anyone who did not begin remembering their dreams.
