Terms for letter: W
Waiter
This character is responsible for bringing you nourishment and you may be dreaming of a restaurant when you are exploring new ways of being fulfilled. Dreaming of a waiter/waitress can be an objective portrayal of how you might allow yourself to be fulfilled or nourished. See Food.
Waiting
Since dreams usually represent the opposite of what you believe to be true about yourself, a dream where you are forced to wait can actually suggest a need to slow down in a situation where you are too busy to notice that you are unfulfilled. Waiting associated with transportation will reveal your dependency on circumstances that can allow you to understand the roots of your motivation. See Late and Vehicles and Places of Transportation.
Walking
There are many ways that you move forward in life. Transportation Vehicles and shoes can reveal your motivation or sense of empowerment in moving forward. When you are walking, the dream seems to suggest that you are currently moving slowly and perceptively through the changes in your life in order to learn more about yourself.
Wall
Associated with Houses and Buildings, a wall suggests what you have ‘erected’ to hide behind. Climbing a wall can portray your desire to transcend your these boundaries. Relieving yourself in a bathroom without walls can portray your movement toward intimacy. Any dream involving walls shows both the barriers you construct and how they block your natural expression. Wallet
The wallet is associate with the identity and ability to provide for oneself. Losing a wallet or searching for a wallet is common when we are changing jobs. See Purses, Wallets, Luggage, Jewels and Keys.
Wallpaper
You may build walls that protect your current ideas and then cover them with colorful paper as a way of entertaining yourself while the world outside passes you by. The wallpaper is a symbol of ‘covering up’ the idea that you are hiding behind a superficial perspective. Seeing a tear in the wallpaper can symbolize the first stage of transformation as you transcend the walls that hold you back.
Warning
Being warned by Police is a common theme as some emerging side of you is transcending your critical tapes. See Answer and Red under Colors.
Washing
The idea of ‘coming clean’ or removing ‘dirt’ from an object can suggest either being intimate, truthful or avoiding ‘dirty’ or sexual feelings. The symbol that is being cleaned can shed further light on what this is. If it is clothes, then you are ‘renewing’ an outworn attitude. If it is dishes, then you are washing away an outworn way of being fulfilled to allow for something new. See Clean.
Water
Water dreams are very common because water represents your emotions, and how you feel about the changes that you face as you move through life. The sea is a classic symbol of the depths of the unconscious and the unknown, untapped or fearful aspects you hold within the psyche. To dream of turbulent seas suggests a sense of emotional crisis associated with moving forward. Any time this type of dreams occurs, later, you may dream about being on a similar ship and crossing the water that has become calm. This is representative of the emotional growth that you have achieved. In all of our ancient stories, water is the mysterious reservoir where the hero is to retrieve a treasure. Similarly, raging water often initiates you into a process of self-discovery. Floods can undermine the foundation of your beliefs until you are forced to let go. What you thought was solid and what you thought you needed, is washed away in the pursuit of basic survival. Water can also represent health and wellness since it is a symbol of the elixir of life.
Waterjug
This utensil that holds water captures the ideas of nourishment and feelings. In a sense, you are searching for a way to contain your feelings or to allow them to flow freely in your interactions with others. Associated with the astrological sign Aquarius as an Archetype, the water bearer or waterjug brings forward ideas related to aspirations and goals, exuberance and the power of knowledge when it is practically applied.
Weapons and Utensils
Weapons and utensils represent what you hold in your hand to express, feed, defend or build something. Guns can represent defensive tendencies and are sometimes considered sexual. Cutting tools are used to cut through restraints or to shape something new from the old. Scissors combine the motion of grasping and letting go with the idea of cutting to symbolize ‘cutting away’ the things that bind you. The hammer allows you to ‘nail something’ of get it right, while you may also be pounding out your frustration. A sword can be sexual, although a sword or knife can suggest defensive tendencies or cutting through something to see the truth. An arrow can represent your desire to ‘hit the mark’ in your aspirations. A fork can represent the ability to gain fulfillment, but can also suggest a ‘fork in the road’ or choice. Artistic tools are associated creativity and any item that is held in the hand will have an association with self-creation. A pen and pencil carry the idea of communication, while the pen can signify words that are not easily ‘erased.’ The pencil may be portraying words that have no commitment behind them. Wedding
Often you will dream of attending a wedding that is not your own and have the sense of not remembering who the people were that were getting married. This portrays adopting behaviors that are not necessarily right for your. In this case, the other symbolism becomes important in recognizing how you may be going through the ‘ritual’ or routine of public acceptance. If the wedding is your own, it becomes the classic representation of the merging or union of different sides of yourself, usually adopting the Anima or Animus. Weeds
Something is growing within that may not be fulfilling and may strangle your ability to find sustenance. See Garden under Houses and Buildings.
Well
As the wellspring of your inspiration and intuition, the well can symbolize how you are approaching unconscious attitudes in an effort to understand your feelings. See Water.
Werewolf
This character combines the idea of unrepressed urges and how they can come to overwhelm your need for control. See Wolf, Animals and Shadow under Archetypes and Universal Characters.
West
Going west can symbolize how you are exploring the ‘frontier’ of your potential. Associated with what is modern and driven to achieve success, the direction of west can point to these qualities within you.
Wheel
You may have a sense that you are ‘coming full circle’ or that you may need to move forward. See Tire and Vehicles and Places of Transportation.
Whistle
When the whistle blows, something usually begins or ends. Like Alarm, you may need to pay attention to the idea of beginning or ending something. To hear wind whistling in the trees calls your attention to the 'winds of change' and something related to your family dynamics.
Wig
Since hair represents how you groom your ideas over time, a wig carries the idea of ‘donning’ a false persona, perhaps for acceptance.
Wind
The wind has a way of stirring things up and moving what remains stationary, like the branches of trees. It removes the seeds of the future and returns them to the ground and can be representative of the classic transformative process. Like Tornado, the wind can portray a force beyond your control that is moving you forward.
Window
Windows are associated with the ability to see clearly. If you are cleaning the window, you are increasing your awareness or ability to see something. If you are in a room without windows, the area of the psyche that the room represents is being shut off from everyday experiences. To open a window, you are opening to new ideas and perspectives. Winter
Associated with Cold and things that are Frozen, a winter landscape can represent feelings that remain below the surface, as you move across what appears to be a barren landscape. If you are working through issues that are difficult for you to face, often you may find yourself in this ‘cold’ environment initially. In reality, there is an enormous amount of creative energy ‘below’ waiting for the spring of your ‘rebirth.’
Wise Man and Woman
The Wise Man or Wise Woman often appear in later dreams when you are moving through a major transformation. They symbolize the intuition that is being awakened within as a profound guiding source in your development. Often associated with older characters and especially grandparents that have passed away, meeting these characters can portray the way that all that they represent has awakened within you. It is important to give careful consideration to whatever they are saying or teaching you. Their insight is often transcending the imagination, accessing a deeper level of intuition that can guide you forward. See Wise One under Archetypes and Universal Characters.
Witch
A witch appearing in a dream represents unintegrated feminine traits of feelings, sensitivity and intuition that is not allowed natural expression. As a Homonym, the Witch can also represent choices you are not recognizing as in "which." See Wizard and Great Mother/Wise Woman under Archetypes and Universal Characters.
Wolf
Seeing wolves in a dream brings the idea of the dog (companionship and unconditional love) forward, but mixes it with the idea of being wild. The wolf can have associations with the need to be more independent even while you are in a relationship. The werewolf combines this idea with hiding or doing something 'behind closed doors' or 'in the dark' because you are not allowed to express natural urges. Driven by the 'full moon' the werewolf can also be related to adopted behavior associated with the mother. The moon represents a great force pulling on your emotions. See Animals.
Womb
Dreaming of caves or openings in the earth can be representative of the womb and feelings associated with the mother. For a woman, traveling into a cave can represent her exploration of sexual urges. For a man, it can signify a movement toward sensitivity.
Wood
Unlike Metal and Stone, wood is an element that signifies what is most natural within you. When an object is made of wood, it represents the suppleness of your authenticity, portraying an element that is most susceptible to the changes in your environment. Since it is also associated with Trees, something made of wood can represent what you are making of family dynamics.
Work
There are often challenges in the work environment and dreaming of work allows you to work through these challenges. To dream of doing work that is not what you are currently doing, suggests ‘working on’ whatever the symbolism relates to, ie: clothing-persona, warehouse-sorting through old ideas, car-motivation, train-the tracks you feel have been laid for you, or water-emotions. Dreaming of serving food can represent self-nourishing thoughts that may or may not be working for you, while driving a bus can suggest conformity or the integration of all sides of you as you explore your motivation to move forward. Worm
Generally unpleasant, the worm is a living thing beneath the soil and can represent feelings of being unworthy or ignored that are 'crawling' beneath the surface. These feelings of insignificance can rise, when you are moving toward self-acceptance. See Insects.
Wrinkle
Time marks itself upon the skin with wrinkles and seeing something wrinkled can represent your sense of passing time. A ‘wrinkle in the fabric’ can suggest difficulty or that something is amiss that you are not recognizing.
